Design Under the Sun
Design under the Sun is a continuation of activities within Design tourism – platform for promotion and recognition of design in tourism founded by Croatian Designers Association. Built on the methodology of curatorial projects Croatian Holiday 2012 and Hungry Designers 2013, new theme Design Under the Sun puts the sun in focus as a still dominant global tourist product according to current Croatian strategy of tourism, with the idea of critical and intelligent reflection on solar energy in the broadest sense.
Collection of objects is offering alternative solutions to existing problems and new scenarios and services with the potential for implementation in the current Croatian tourist offer. The exhibition presents works in progress, and aims to attract both tourists as well as potential product manufacturers.
The projects in the exhibition interpret the themes of sun exposure, sun protection (Ana Rimac: Concrete pergola, Sonda: Kamarín) and sunbathing (Matea Ban, Luka Lucija Šola: Coolnes(t), Oaza: Sunswimmer), the sun as an energy source (Draga Komparak: 360 °), along with related alternative services in tourism (Neven Kovačić, Vedran Jukić: MobilE, Sonda: Smart Beach).
The fact that the exhibition bears the subtitle work in progress shows that presented projects are in the stage of development, but also calls for new authors to apply with their works and suggestions and join the collection.

Coolness(t) project is a response to the problem of transporting and cooling foods while spending time on the beach. Waterproof bag unites functionality (for underwater cooling of food and drinks) and aesthetics of a desired fashion item. Details, signaling buoys in the form of pendants and decorative handles encode its further usage.
Along the way
by Draga Komparak
Clothing accessory in the form of a scarf is designed as an educational tool for collecting smaller amounts of herbs and medical plants of Dalmatia, and serves as a sort of a memorabilia of visited places. Each scarf contains a mini bag and a guide that suggests ways of harvesting and using herbs, and characteristics of the region in which they grow.

Homemade liqueurs are being prepared by mixing brandy, usually grape or pear, with sugar and fruit. Culture of liqueur preparation is known throughout Croatia, and their variety depends on climate and geographical location. 360° is a glass container shaped and adopted for preparation of liquors in small quantities, as a kind of memento of the summer and the chance to preserve memories collected at the market or in the countryside.

Cyclotourism is an activity that involves travelling by bike, with the purpose of enjoyment. Electric bicycle, also known as an e-bike is a bicycle with an integrated electric motor that can be used to drive while retaining the possibility of pedaling. It uses rechargeable batteries and can travel from 25 to 32 km/h. E-bike offers a new way of cycling rent on a daily, weekend or weekly basis. It has the look and feel of a classic bike, only with greater potential scope. E-bike represents the best link between recreation, convenience, cost effectiveness and visiting of unknown landscapes. Lets explore cultural and historical heritage as well as the natural and gastronomic riches of the region. The network of bike stations (battery chargers) enables replacement at the end of the day, after 40 km of ride.
Kamarin in dialect means a cabin, which is one of the functions of the towel when its ends are connected with the zipper. Kamarin can be used as a cloak, sunscreen, sun towel to lay down and wipe or as a fashion item.
It is adaptable to different sizes and needs.
Trellis on concrete
by Ana Rimac
Trellis on concrete is a modular system intended for the creation of shades in urban areas. Brajda has historically functioned as an essential part of the architecture of the family house or yard, as a green wall or roof. Summer and high temperatures would be spent under the thick shade of the plants and associated construction. The project examines ways of integrating trellis from rural into the urban environment on rooftops, balconies and windows.
Sunswimmer is a product inspired by simple air matrasses, and was developed as a unified assortment intended for hotels or other exterior (terraces, pools, beaches) or interior use. In case of exterior use, a geometrized air sheath (the positive) is inserted into the metal construction (the negative). The same construction can be used in the interior in combination with classic upholstery. The solution for chair renting service was found in renting inflatable fast drying pillows, easy to maintain and wash in all weather conditions, including salt, water and sunlight.
The access to information and hospitality significantly affect the quality of tourist offer on destinations, as proved by numerous researches. Project Smart Beach wants to meet all the needs of tourists for a safe, enjoyable and entertaining time on the beach, through an application that provides answers about the available food, prices, safety etc.
